Cylinder oil, trunk-piston oil, system oil — for the whole engine room.
Tell us the engine, the fuel it burns and what it runs on today. We match the BN and the viscosity, and send the data sheet with the quote.

Find the engine. The oil follows.
Marine engine oil is chosen by engine type, fuel sulphur and viscosity. Find your engine or system below. The engine builder's guidance always governs.
| Engine or system | What the engine builder usually specifies | MOTTA product | Packs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medium-speed trunk-piston enginesMain and auxiliary engines | Trunk-piston engine oil, BN matched to the fuelSAE 40 | MAR403 (BN 30) and MAR404 (BN 40) →Higher BN for higher-sulphur fuel | 18L · 200L |
| Low-speed two-stroke crosshead engines — cylinders | Cylinder oil, BN matched to fuel sulphurSAE 50 | MC504 (BN 40) and MC507 (BN 70) →Follow the engine builder's feed-rate guidance | 18L · 200L |
| Low-speed two-stroke crosshead engines — crankcase | System oilSAE 30 | MS630 and MS830 → | 18L · 200L |
| Crankcase and circulating systems calling for SAE 40 | System oilSAE 40 | MS640 and MS840 → | 18L · 200L |
| Deck machinery and steering gear hydraulics | Anti-wear hydraulic oil HMISO VG 32, 46 or 68 | Y Series hydraulic oil → | 18L · 200L |
| Deck cranes, winches and enclosed gearboxes | Industrial gear oil CLPISO VG 150 to 460 | L Series gear oil → | 18L · 200L |
| Starting-air and service-air compressors | Air compressor oilISO VG 68 to 150 | S Series compressor oil → | 18L · 200L |
These are the requirements these engines and systems commonly carry. The engine builder's guidance governs the final choice — send us the engine model and the fuel and we match it.
Three steps to the right oil.
Tell us the engine
Builder and model, two-stroke or four-stroke, main or auxiliary.
Tell us the fuel
Fuel sulphur is what sets the BN. Tell us the fuel you burn, and send your latest used-oil analysis if you have one.
Send it to us
You get the grade, the data sheet and a price in 18L or 200L, for one vessel or a fleet.
Three series for marine engines.
Four things marine buyers ask most.
How do I choose the BN?
By the sulphur in your fuel and the engine builder's guidance. Too low a BN leaves acid unneutralised; too high can build deposits. Used-oil or scrape-down analysis shows whether the BN is right — send it and we read it with you.
Is system oil the same as trunk-piston oil?
No. System oil lubricates the crankcase of a crosshead engine and carries a low BN. Trunk-piston oil lubricates both cylinders and crankcase of a medium-speed engine, so it carries a higher BN.
Can I order for a single vessel?
Yes. One container can mix engine, hydraulic, gear and compressor oils, and trial quantities are considered by product and project. Retail-pack samples are free — you pay the freight.
Do you have documents for the ship's records?
Every product has a technical data sheet, downloadable without a form, and the marine series have an operation and handling handbook. The SDS comes with your quote.
