INDUSTRY APPLICATION · POWER GENERATION
Synthetic lubrication for the equipment that coal and thermal power plants can't afford to lose.
Coal mills, air preheaters and induced-draft fans in a power plant run continuously, under dust, heavy load and (for coal mills) direct grinding contact. MOTTA's synthetic range targets exactly those failure modes — with grade selection matched to mill type, dust ingress and operating temperature.
What drives product selection in this industry.
- Continuous, unplanned-downtime-intolerant duty
Synthetic gear oils and greases in the range are chosen for extended oil-change intervals and thermal stability, reducing the number of planned outages needed for lubricant service. - Dust-laden, high-load gear contact
Coal-mill gears (Raymond mills, ball mills) run under constant dust ingress and high torque — conditions where mineral gear oil oxidises and loses film strength fastest. - High-temperature bearing duty
Motor bearings, air-preheater bearings and mill bearings are graded by MOTTA SG synthetic grease series rather than a single all-purpose grease. - Roots blower high-temperature failure
Positive-displacement (Roots) blowers running hot are a recurring failure point when the gear oil viscosity/thermal-stability match is wrong.
Coal-mill worm gearing — power generationCoal mills in coal-fired power generation drive worm gearing under heavy dust ingress and high contact stress. Pitting and spalling of the worm gear are the wear modes that govern grade selection for this duty, and they are the reason a synthetic gear oil is specified rather than a general mineral grade. MOTTA L1200 320 is the grade carried in this series for coal-mill worm gearing.
