INDUSTRY APPLICATION · CERAMICS

From ball mill to a 7,000-tonne press, matched to each stage of tile production.

Ceramic tile production runs a wide range of duty in one line — wet grinding in the ball mill, spray-drying, presses running up to roughly 7,000 tonnes of force and 350 bar hydraulic pressure, then roller-dryer and glazing-line equipment. MOTTA's ceramics range is mapped stage by stage rather than treating the whole line as one hydraulic/gear-oil spec.

What drives product selection in this industry.

  • Wet grinding under continuous load
Ball mill gear drives and bearings run continuously under wet, abrasive conditions — the mill is specified separately for motor bearings, reduction gearbox and mill-support bearings.
  • High-pressure, high-tonnage press hydraulics
Tile presses running 350 bar and up to roughly 7,000 tonnes of force need anti-wear hydraulic oil built for sustained high pressure, not a general-purpose grade.
  • High-temperature dryer and kiln-area equipment
Roller dryers run 120–250°C; bearings, chains and fan drives in this zone are specified on high-temperature grease and synthetic circulating oils rather than standard mineral products.
Tile press hydraulic load — ceramicsMOTTA's ceramics technical training notes the tile press as the line's defining lubrication challenge: pressing force up to roughly 7,000 tonnes, hydraulic pressure to 350 bar and hydraulic oil reservoirs ranging 400–1,700 litres depending on press size — the basis for specifying MOTTA Y200/Y100 anti-wear hydraulic oil rather than a general hydraulic grade.
