Industry application references
Six equipment application references covering lubrication points, operating conditions and product selection. Drawn from MOTTA's internal technical training material.
Coal-mill worm-gear replacement — power generation
Coal mills in coal-fired power generation drive worm gearing under heavy dust ingress and high contact stress. Pitting and spalling of the worm gear are the wear modes that govern grade selection for this duty, and they are the reason a synthetic gear oil is specified rather than a general mineral grade. MOTTA L1200 320 is the grade carried in this series for coal-mill worm gearing.
Cold-mill coiler gearboxes — steel
Precision cold-rolling strip mills using FROHLING coiler stands carry an ISO VG 320 industrial gear oil in the left and right coiler gearboxes. MOTTA L500 320 is the corresponding grade in this series for that gearbox duty.
Roots blower bearing life — wastewater treatment
A Roots-type blower (SNH-825 class) feeding a wastewater treatment aeration system runs at elevated system temperature. Thermal stability of the gear oil is the governing selection factor for this bearing duty, which is why a higher thermal-stability grade is specified rather than a general mineral gear oil.
SOMET Super Excel rapier loom — textile
MOTTA's technical training material maps every lubrication point on a SOMET Super Excel rapier loom by name — cam box, take-up toothed wheel, take-up worm gear, warp let-off worm gear, slow-speed box and weft selector — each matched to a specific MOTTA product and viscosity grade.
Tile press hydraulic load — ceramics
MOTTA's ceramics technical training notes the tile press as the line's defining lubrication challenge: pressing force up to roughly 7,000 tonnes, hydraulic pressure to 350 bar and hydraulic oil reservoirs ranging 400–1,700 litres depending on press size — the basis for specifying MOTTA Y200/Y100 anti-wear hydraulic oil rather than a general hydraulic grade.
The paper machine bearing economics — papermaking
MOTTA's technical training material for this sector opens with the bearing count itself: a modern paper machine can carry over 1,000 large bearings, while the Yankee cylinder used to dry tissue may run on just two — and a single large roll bearing can run into the thousands of pounds to replace. That cost profile is why the press- and dryer-section oil (MOTTA H50 Series) is purpose-built rather than substituted with a general industrial oil.
